The primary mission of the Chillicothe Fire Department is to protect and enhance the quality of life of the citizens of Chillicothe and Livingston county. This is done using comprehensive programs of service which are directed towards public education, prevention and control of fire, rescue, hazardous material mitigation and the answering of calls regarding emergency medical situations.
We are commited to serving our community and county with professionalism, excellence and devotion to duty. We always strive to maintain and improve the skills of all of our personnel.
We are an all paid / career fire department. Currently, we staff 22 career firefighters and 13 firefighter who are available on call. We use a Berkley schedule consisting of 24 hour shifts. Most staff is currently trained as Firefighter/Paramedics.
As of our last census, Chillicothe Fire Department protects approximately 14,592 resident in an area of 576 square miles. We have both urban and rural populations. Chillicothe is affectionally known as the "city in the country".
